PRESIDENCY 

OBAMA'S EGYPTIAN VICTORY - The left leaning media is celebrating President Barack Obama's "stunning" diplomacy in handling the crisis in Egypt and congratulating him for establishing democracy there. Hello! The Egyptian constitution has been suspended, Parliament has been dissolved and a military council is in charge of the country. On top of that, the largest organized group in Egypt, the Muslim Brotherhood, has declared it will accept nothing short of sharia law. As for Obama, one day he called for democracy, the next day said Mubarak was a friend of America, and the day following that said the people should rule. In other words he flipped and flopped for several days until events played out.  
IS OBAMA IGNORING ISLAMIST DANGER? - In as hard hitting article in the Jewish Exponent, Morton A. Klein and Daniel Mandel clearly layout the missteps and ignorance of the Obama Administration. "Could the Egyptian population vote in the Muslim Brotherhood? Polls show it could. A 2007 University of Maryland survey shows that 67 percent of Egyptians favor all Arab countries united as one Islamist state. A 2010 Pew poll indicates that 74 percent of Egyptians favor the imposition of strict Sharia (Islamic) law. Eighty-four percent of Egyptians support the death penalty for those who convert out of Islam. So a Muslim Brotherhood takeover is possible.," they write. Read more of this powerful article.
CREATE DEBT FOR PROSPERITY - President Obama has released his budget for 2012. The budget increases taxes and spending and would result in a tripling of the national debt held by the public between now and 2019. in 2012 the total debt of the government will exceed the entire Gross Domestic Product of the nation, something that has not happened since World War II when 20% of the nation's men were in uniform. As of now 40 cents of every dollar the government spends has to be borrowed. Examination of Obama budget

THE CONGRESS 

PROTECT RELIGIOUS MINORITIES - Congressman Frank Wolf has introduced a bill that would force the State Department to create a special envoy to deal with repressed religious minorities in Islamic nations. Wolf, co-chair of the Tom Lantos Human Rights Commission, said threats against religious minorities have been increasing in recent months and that the United States has an obligation to speak out for the voiceless, "If the international community fails to speak out, the prospects for religious pluralism and tolerance in the region are bleak," Wolf said in introducing HR 440. DEFUNDING PLANNED PARENTHOOD - Congressman Mike Pence is on a crusade to stop Planned Parenthood from receiving tens of millions of taxpayer dollars. As the largest abortion provider in the United States the organization is actually profitable and has no need for federal funds other than to bloat its budget. This week Congressman Pence introduced an amendment to the "CR" or Continuing Resolution to cut all funding from Planned Parenthood for the rest of the year. NOTE: The CR is required because the Democrat controlled House failed to pass a spending bills last year to fund government operations for this year.

RELIGION AND CULTURE 

ROYAL CARIBBEAN HOSTS GAY DRUG CRUISE - A young man died of an overdose of drugs on the first night of the Royal Caribbean's "gay cruise" on the Allure of the Seas. He was one of two young men to die on the seven day cruise which began on February 6th. By the time the drug dealer was caught late in the cruise he had already sold $51,000 in drugs and had little remaining to sell. The dealer, Steven Krumholz, age 51, was taken into custody by ICE agents in St. Thomas, USVI. Royal Caribbean advertises the Allure of the Seas as a family friendly ship which features Dreamworks characters from movies such as Shrek, Madagascar, and Kung Fu Panda. Few media outlets have reported on the drug arrest, and those that have did not report on the drug related deaths. The ship's doctors handled more drug related cases during the week than an emergency room in downtown Detroit. 
ISLAM'S GAY FREE ZONE IN LONDON- Homosexual news outlets in the UK are reporting that Islamists in London have posted stickers calling for a gay-free zone. The stickers were put up around schools and pubs, including a gay bar called George and Dragon. The stickers, which were said to be "professional" said, "Arise and Warn. Gay free zone. Verily Allah is severe in punishment." The mainstream media in the UK is too cowardly to report the continued problems between Muslims and homosexuals because they support both groups. RAUF WANTS NEW DEVELOPER FOR MOSQUE - Sharif el-Gamal didn't do much for Imam Feisal Rauf other than to give him media scrutiny that exposed him as a slum landlord. Now, apparently, Rauf is looking for a new developer for a different "cultural center." During a puff interview on NPR Rauf said, "If someone were to offer a site that is equal or better," and which could accommodate a multi-faith center ... I'd be very receptive to that."

INTERNATIONAL 

ISLAM'S WAR ON THAILAND - You will not hear about the Islamic war against Thailand from any American news outlets, but the terror is real. Since the beginning of 2011 there have been 31 terror attacks in Thailand that have been documented, virtually all against innocent civilians who are Buddhists. So far 51 have died and more were injured. Most recently Muslims kidnapped and murdered two young Buddhist children in Yala. MEDIA DISCOVERS SLAUGHTER OF CHRISTIANS - For ten years Christian children where kidnapped and murdered in Iraq. Thousands of Christian women were raped, the men murdered and homes stolen. More than half the Christian population was forced to flee and the media was virtually silent, almost giving permission to Muslims worldwide to murder Christians. Suddenly the media has discovered the murders of Christians in Egypt, Pakistan and Iraq. Just in the last few months the bombings of churches and the murders of Christians have become news worthy. It may be too little to late, but at last Fox News has acknowledged and reported on the previous lack of media reporting on the slaughter.

PRESIDENCY 

THE MESSIAH HAS NO CROWN - Just two years ago the mainstream media celebrated after raising Barack Obama to a godlike image and helping to elect him to the presidency. Whether doctor, preacher or president, no human can live up to the status of messiah for long. Now the liberal press has noticed that Obama's crown is missing and perhaps the robes are not purple enough. Members of Obama's own party are debating his electability in 2012 and the hard left is delivering him punishing blows. The tax rate deal Obama struck with Republicans has turned his purple robe into a red cape in the eyes of many Democrats.  
AND THE NATIONAL MOTTO IS? - Does the president of the United States know what the national motto is, or is he so self-centered on his leftist ideology that he does not care what it is? Members of Congress would like to know. Congressman J. Randy Forbes (R-VA), and 42 other Members of the Congressional Prayer Caucus, today sent a letter to President Barack Obama asking him to issue a correction to his speech in Jakarta, Indonesia, in which he referred to the national motto as being "E Pluribus unum." Forbes said, "For the President of the United States to incorrectly state something as foundational as our national motto in another country is unacceptable. The President is the primary representative of our nation to the world, and whether mistake or intention, his actions cast aside an integral part of American society." THE CONGRESS 

THE COMPROMISE IS NOT - Just two years ago San Francisco radical Nancy Pelosi was leading House Democrats in a love fest for then President-elect Barack Obama. Some thought she would try to change the Constitution to declare him "president for life" ala Hugo Chavez. How times have changed! Now Pelosi is leading the charge to fight what she sees as Barack Obaba's sell out of the left's desire to redistribute wealth. She and other Democrats are livid that Obama has agreed to extend the current tax rate rather than raise taxes on those who work hard and have good incomes. Both Pelosi and Harry Reid are holding hostage the entire nation with the threat that tax rates will increase for all Americans in just a few weeks.
 

CULTURE AND RELIGION 

DON'T ASK, DON'T TELL - Much to the dismay of President Barack Obama and Admiral Mullen, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Senate Republicans have blocked the repeal of "Don't ask, don't tell." This means the rule which blocks open homosexuals from serving in the military will stay in effect. While Mullen supported the repeal, most of the generals did not. In a survey, most of those in non-combat roles appeared not to care one way or another, but that was not true of front line troops. There is a big difference between sitting next to a homosexual operating a computer in an office and having one in a foxhole sharing the hole in the ground used for a toilet.

RAUF'S RELIGION OF PEACE - Slum landlord and Muslim spiritual leader Feisal Rauf recently told the Associated Press that the "tumult" of last summer is over and he is ready to build even more Islamic Centers in the United States and other countries to show how peaceful Islam is. Meanwhile, a new Pew Poll shows the majority of Muslims support the death penalty for anyone leaving Islam. In a new poll by Pew, a majority of Muslims in many of the world's Islamic countries says they are very much in favor of killing any person who converts from Islam to any other religion. The poll also found that a majority in the Muslim faith favor cutting off hands for theft and stoning people to death for adultery. The overwhelming majority of Muslims also want Islam to play a major role government.

DEMONSTRATION SUPPORTING IRAQI CHRISTIANS - On Saturday, December 4th, 2010 a number of organizations held a demonstration in Lafayette Park across the street from the White House to call attention to the continued persecution of Christians and other religious minorities in Iraq. US AMBASSADOR TO TERROR - U.S. ambassador to the UK, Louis B. Susman, visited the East London Mosque (ELM), ELM, to express his "great admiration" and to further state that he was "looking forward" to a dialogue with mosque leaders. The East London Mosque has hosted speakers such as Anwar al-Awlaki, who is the leader of al-Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula and who is also on a US terrorist hit list. In addition, the leader of terror group Jamaat-e-Islami Bangladesh, and numerous other radical jihadists have spoken there. When the Susman visit to ELM was exposed by the press, the State Department defended him in an official statement saying that his visit there was, "part of President Obama's call for a renewed dialogue with Muslim communities around the world." ASIA BIBI - Asia Bibi, A Christian woman in Pakistan, is still slated to be executed for insulting the Koran. She has been jailed for 15 months and has never been able to testify on her own behalf. Her execution is based on the accusation of a Muslim neighbor who was in a dispute with her. Meanwhile, the Center for Legal Aid, Assistance and Settlement (CLAAS), is appealing to the Pakistani government to pardon Bibi. (A court has ordered Pakistan's president not to pardon her, as he had tried to do.) CLASS also is demanding the end to blasphemy laws that allow the arrest of Christians, often on the word of only one Muslim. Read more at Pakistan Christian Post
JEWISH SHARKS ATTACK ARABS?- The story goes that two Arab soccer teams got into a brawl and it was determined that Jews a thousand miles away started the fight. So, who gets blamed when sharks attack Arabs swimming in the Red Sea? You guessed it, the Jews. An Egyptian government official is claiming that Israel's Mossad has sent trained sharks to attack its beaches. Perhaps Secretary of State Hillary Clinton could urge a construction freeze of Jewish homes in Jerusalem until an agreement over shark territories is settled between Israel and Egypt ... OH NO ... I'm starting to sound like I work at the State Department.

THE PRESIDENCY

OBAMA OFFICIAL APOLOGIZES TO CHINA FOR ARIZONA LAW - A State Department official apologized to Chinese officials for Arizona's attempt to enforce immigration laws. The official, Michael Posner, said that the Arizona law was part of a "troubling trend in our society and an indication that we have to deal with issues of discrimination or potential discrimination." And how does China deal with their own "immigration issues?" Chinese soldiers have "shoot to kill" orders in dealing with those escaping from North Korea into China. China has concentration camps for those caught in their nation illegally. The nation has virtually no political freedom and the Internet is censored. Instead of criticizing or condemning China's draconian policies, our State Department and the White House defend the Chinese government and their actions.

Arizona Republican Sens. Jon Kyl and John McCain sent a letter to Posner on Tuesday demanding he retract his statement and issue an apology to the people of Arizona. "As the assistant secretary of state in charge of the bureau of democracy and human rights, your remarks are particularly offensive," they wrote. "There is no place for moral equivalency in democracy and human rights policy. The United States is the world's leader in defending the rights of all people. Someone in your position should be proud to proclaim that." Read Politico article  
CAN THEY READ AT ALL? - Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano admitted during congressional hearings that she has not read the Arizona immigration law she has been criticizing on national news shows. At the hearing she asserted that it was "bad law enforcement law" even though she had not read it and only "knew of it." Last week Attorney General Eric Holder also admitted at a congressional hearing that he had not read the law. This admission came after he said the Justice Department may sue to stop its enforcemnent. On TV news shows he said the law would violate rights and that it was a "slippery slope" toward racial profiling. Then State Department spokesman P.J. Crowley also admitted not reading a single word of the bill, while he defended under secretary Michael Posner's criticism of it. This leads us to a burning question: Does anyone in the Obama Administration read anything before they run to the media to talk about it? Obama never read a word of the Health Care bill while he was running around the country promoting it. This is a 'from the top down' problem in the Obama Administration.

THE CONGRESS

PARENTAL RIGHTS - Senator Jim DeMint (R-SC) this week introduced S.R. 519, a resolution opposing ratification of the United Nations' Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC). This is an effort by DeMint and several co-sponsors to derail the Obama administration efforts to ratify the CRC, which would erase all parental rights, even the right for parents to take their children to church. A committee of 18 non-American "experts" in Geneva would have the authority to issue rules binding American courts and even state legislatures. Because a treaty requires 67 votes in the Senate, only 34 signers to S.R. 519 are needed to stop this insane treaty that would give the power of determining the rearing of American children to foreign bureaucrats. WOLF DEMANDS HEARINGS AS MOROCCO CRACKS DOWN ON CHRISTIANS - Congressman Frank Wolf (R-VA), a champion of religious liberties, has announced hearings on June 17th to investigate the violation of human rights in Morocco, a "moderate" Muslim nation. The deportation of approximately 40 American citizens and many other foreign nationals on charges of proselytism has raised concerns about the status of religious freedom in Morocco. Those deported ran a wide array of humanitarian organizations including orphanages. The Village of Hope, an orphanage that takes in children who have been abandoned by their parents, was one of the targets. Time Magazine reported that "the Village of Hope deportations are part of what appears to be a widespread crackdown on Christian aid workers in Morocco." Meanwhile Congressman Wolf has demanded that the State Department issue a travel advisory for Morocco and suspend some funding. See Wolf letter to Sec. Clinton

CULTURE AND RELIGION  

SUPREME COURT USES UNSIGNED TREATY - In the Congress section above, I related the problems inherent in the Convention of the Rights of the Child treaty (CRC) which the US has not yet ratified. Setting a very bad precedent, this week by a 6 to 3 vote, the Supreme Court used the CRC in a ruling stating that it was unconstitutional to sentence a juvenile to life in prison without parole in non-homicide cases. The Court cited the CRC and other international law in its decision. Michael Farris, head of the Home School Legal Defense Association said, "It is bad enough for the Supreme Court to engage in judicial activism. It is far worse when the justices employ international law in support of their far-reaching edicts. We have not ratified the UN child's rights treaty-its provisions should not be finding their way into Supreme Court decisions." Read more at HSLDA site  
GAY HONESTY IN BRAZIL - The undisputed leader of the homosexual movement in Brazil, Luiz Mott, said on nation TV, "I am an ex-heterosexual in the same way that there are ex-gays, people that were not 100% homosexual. They had some experiences, did not like them and then joined the other side." He further admitted that homosexuals are not born that way by saying, "Usually I say, we need you heterosexuals, we love you so that you may reproduce children to become homosexuals..." I wish American homosexuals were as honest. They relentlessly persecute anyone who publicly proclaims that homosexuality is a choice, not a genetic condition. Maybe Obama's pick for the Supreme Court, Elena Kagan can come out with a statement on the subject during her confirmation hearings.

BITTER CRACK DOWN IN MOROCCO - In the past few weeks Morocco has ordered the expulsion of 23 Christian foreigners, including one American. This is in addition to the 40 workers that have already been expelled this year. Morocco claims that Muslims are being converted to Christianity as a result of the presence of the aid workers, some of whom have been there for decades. Many of those expelled work in orphanages. 
OBLITERATING IRAQ'S CHRISTIAN COMMUNITY - Nina Shea, who serves on the Commission for International Religious Freedom, has written a new op-ed that should be read by every church leader and politician in America. One powerful paragraph says: "Relentless waves of bombings, assassinations, kidnappings, extortions and rapes have triggered a mass exodus of Christians from Iraq over the past seven years. THE PRESIDENCY

RECESS APPOINTMENTS - As soon as the Senate declared a recess, President Barack Obama made 15 recess appointments. In themselves recess appointments are not a major concern, and all Presidents including George W. Bush have made them. What was unusual this time was that several of these were not "backlogged," but rather individuals whose credentials were still under investigation. Even Democrats were concerned about at least one of the nominees, Georgetown University Law Professor Chai R. Feldblum, who was appointed to the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC). In previous updates I have written about her activism with lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender issues. In 2006 she signed a manifesto entitled "Beyond Marriage" which advocated, "Legal recognition for a wide range of relationships, households and families - regardless of kinship or conjugal status," including "Households in which there is more than one conjugal partner." There is no doubt that Feldblum was advocating polygamy. She can now use her position on the EEOC to attack private organizations such as the Boy Scouts. Please note that President Obama chose the Passover/Easter recess to make the appointment of this radical lesbian leader to a position of authority.

THE CONGRESS

CONGRESS IN RECESS - Congress began a "district work" recess before the first day of Passover and will not return until Tuesday, April 13th. Many of the Members of the House are deacons and Sunday School teachers and will be at their home churches for the Easter Weekend. EASTER STATEMENTS OR LACK THEREOF - Democrat Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi issued no statement for Easter. On the other hand, Minority Leader John Boehner, the number one ranking Republican in the House issued an Easter Statement that actually referred to the Resurrection. His statement read: "For nearly two millennia, the observance of Christ's resurrection has inspired forgiveness, renewal, and hope for eternal life. This Easter, as we gather for worship with family and friends, let us give thanks to God for our tremendous blessings as a free people and remember those in uniform serving in harm's way for our protection." RELIGIOUS FREEDOM AMBASSADOR NOT APPOINTED - Congressman Trent Franks (AZ-02) and Emanuel Cleaver II (MO-05), Co-chairs of the International Religious Freedom Caucus, sent a letter to President Obama calling on him to fill the vacant position of Ambassador at Large for International Religious Freedom. Obama has allowed the ambassadorship to remain vacant for more than a year, sending the message that religious freedom issues are no longer a major concern of the United States. Congressman Franks stated, "The Ambassador at Large is one of the most critical foreign diplomats the United States has. America was founded on religious liberty, and those persecuted for their religious beliefs expect us to help their governments understand the many blessings we have experienced by valuing this freedom." Franks continued, "The Ambassador ensures that people like Gao Zhisheng of China, who was taken by police and whose whereabouts were unknown for the past year, is freed and allowed to leave the country to rejoin his family in the United States. With how indebted the U.S. is to China, our only hope is for us to help them see the benefits of human freedom and democracy; these issues must be a top priority with China and all other governments." EASTER SUNDAY - As I left my gym the other day I noticed a sign saying Easter Sunday hours would be from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM with "only" two aerobics classes. This sort of made me notice the doors of retail stores and I began to realize that all the major big box stores, even electronics stores, would be open on Easter Sunday. I guess I never paid attention before because the only place I go on Easter Sunday is my church. I cannot even imagine what is so important to shop for that it means taking one's eyes off the Lord on the day He conquered death for us all.

INTERNATIONAL

WATER FOR THE CAMP UPDATE - We are on schedule to replace the entire water system at the camp for Christian youth we support in Jordan. A check for $5,000 to begin removal of the old system has been delivered and we are praying for the remainder of the funds. The rusted water storage tanks will be replaced first. I will fly to Jordan for the opening of the summer youth camp in June.

THE PRESIDENCY

FULL STEAM AHEAD -President Barack Obama took over the Oval office during one of the worst recessions in history. Rather than focus on jobs and the economy he plunged ahead with a radical leftist agenda. First he flew to the Middle East and apologized to Muslims for America. Then he flew to Europe and Asia and apologized for America. Then he hired as part of his personal staff people such as Van Jones that openly called themselves communists. He appointed radical pro-abortionists and cross-dressers to high positions and began his push to "fix" global warming and the "health care crisis." The result was 3,000,000 more jobs lost and a nation divided. His poll numbers are in the trash and Democratic elected officials don't want to be seen with him. His response? Push on with health care reform, the gay agenda and the Al Gore global warming religion. Our nation needs a president.  
IMMIGRATION "REFORM" NEXT? - President Obama has determined that he has "won" on health care. He has assured himself that he has the votes in the House after he promised the Progressive Caucus (the socialists) that if they voted for the smaller health care reform package that he would be able to pass a nationalized program later. He is moving on to immigration. The president's plan is simple: Legalize millions of illegal immigrants in hopes of securing the Hispanic vote in 2012.
OBAMA'S AL QAEDA LAWYERS - President Obama appointed Eric Holder to head the Justice Department because the two men are as one when it comes to ideology. Thus, don't expect any criticism from Obama over the hiring of lawyers who volunteered their time to defend terrorists held in Gitmo. Let me say that again: The Justice Department is hiring, for pay, ten lawyers who represented terrorists free of charge. It seems that these men are more aligned in thought with Attorney General Holder than with more mainstream members of the bar.

THE CONGRESS

HOW MAJOR HASAN WAS ALLOWED TO MURDER - Before Major Nidal Hasan murdered13 service members plus one unborn baby at Ft. Hood in November, he warned of what he was going to do. In advance he even presented a slide show explaining why it was required of Muslims in the military to kill their fellow soldiers in the name of Islam. He was ignored. The final report of the military said that over a dozen officers should be punished for failing to see that Hasan was becoming violent. This politically correct report did not once mention Islam or use the word terror. Men are being punished who did not report Hasan precisely because they feared the political correctness that infuses the military.

Ft.Hood is in Congressman John Carter's district. He has introduced HR 4267, the Military Whistle Blowers' Protection Act, that would allow members of the military to report individuals such as Nidal Malik Hasan without fear of reprisal. Make no mistake about this: If any of those now being reprimanded had actually stepped forward before the shooting and complained of Hasan's Islamic declarations, they would have been punished. That has to stop and it is the reason that Congressman Carter has introduced this bill. Please contact your congressman about HR 4267  
NEW SCANDALS - Congressman Charles Rangel has finally stepped down as chairman of the powerful Ways and Means committee. He is involved in numerous scandals including failing to report income tax on property in Jamaica. Another Democrat House member, Eric Massa, has resigned rather than face further investigation over improper sexual conduct toward a male staff member. In 2004 the Republicans lost control of the House largely because of scandals. Democrats now face a duel problem: numerous scandals including those of the governors of New York and Illinois, plus the unpopularity of President Obama's far left agenda including nationalization of health care.
AWAY FROM CAPITOL HILL - I am currently in Naples, Florida at a meeting of the Council on National Policy and as a result do not have my usual Washington sources. While here, I have met with Senator Jim DeMint and Senate candidate Marco Rubio among others. I have attended various briefings that will assist me in my work on Capitol Hill. Next week's update will be expanded to include inside information on the current scandals on Capitol Hill.

MAY DAY IN AMERICA - The Religious Freedom Coalition is a sponsor of May Day 2010. On May 1st of this year, Christian leaders of all denominations who love God will humble themselves and pray at the Lincoln memorial in Washington, DC for our nation and its leaders. This event is not to impress the media or those in Washington, but to reach the heart of God. Thousands of people will join in Washington with leaders to pray for our nation. There are buses scheduled from many states including New York, Florida, Texas and Missouri. Please be a part of this great prayer movement if you can join us. Learn more

INTERNATIONAL

OUR MIDDLE EAST PROJECTS - I have received numerous e-mails from individuals asking why I do not post information in these updates on certain of the projects of the Religious Freedom Coalition in the Middle East. The answer: I post as much as I can. I can't post photos that show locations of the faces of individuals. I can't post comments that would allow Muslims to learn the location of food distribution centers or education centers. To post material the way it is done by some organizations for work in places like Haiti, for example, would cause attacks on the facilities and perhaps even lead to the deaths of individuals. I can only post on the Internet what I feel will not endanger others.
