THE PRESIDENCY

HIGH COURT DEFEAT FOR OBAMA - From his first day in office Barack Obama has been working against religious liberty. His Justice Department has attacked churches on numerous fronts. In a unanimous nine to zero decision the Supreme Court told Obama and his Justice Department that his administration could not take over the internal employment practices of church organizations. In a lawsuit against a Lutheran school, the Obama Administration contended employees of churches were no different than employees of a convenience store and thus subject to all government regulations. Read more

CONGRESSMAN JAILED - Former Congressman Mark Siljander (R-MI), with whom I and others traveled on a fact finding mission to the Sudan in October, 2006, has been sentenced to one year in jail. He had accepted funds from a group associated with terror organizations and acted for them as a lobbyist to end sanctions on the Sudan. I have known Mark for decades and it is known to me that he was not aware of the terror association. Rather, he was blinded by the belief that Christianity and Islam are somehow comparable and he was easily manipulated by Islamic handlers assigned to him. Read more

BOKO HARAM NOT A PROBLEM - The Boko Haram has killed thousands of Christians in the last year in the name of Islam, yet a liberal New York professor says that in Nigeria the Boko Haram "is not a problem." In New York Times Op-ed Jean Herskovits, a professor of history at the State University of New York, says that those bombing churches and killing Christians are merely criminal gangs misusing the good name of the terror group. She further claims that the Boko Haram, which is an offshoot of Al-qaeda, was a "peaceable" Muslim organization founded in 2002 that did not turn to any form of violence until its leader was killed in 2009 by security forces. Although willing to print her articles, the New York Times fails to mention that Herskovits has served in lucrative positions associated with Nigerian Islamic billionaire T.Y Danjuma. Read more

BLASPHEMY COMES TO EGYPT - It is common in many majority Muslim nations for Christians to be unfairly accused of blasphemy and jailed. Many Christians including Asia Bibi are rotting in Pakistani jails because of blasphemy charges, but this had not been the case in Egypt until the "Arab Spring." An Egyptian liberal secular leader, Naguib Sawiris, also one of Egypt's richest men, is to be put on trial for insulting religion over cartoons he Twitted showing Mickey and Minnie Mouse in Muslim clothing. Sawiris is one of the very few Christians in Egypt with money; most are poor and repressed. Read more

MORE DEAD IN NIGERIA -On January 6th gunmen of the Boko Haram attacked Christ Apostolic Church in Yola, Adamawa State capital, killing 12 worshipers. Christians fled their homes in the night to seek refuge at the General Jalo Army Barracks. On January 7th two Christian college students were murdered in Maiduguri. On the 8th two more Christians were murdered in the same town. On the 10th three Christians were hacked to death in Dalman. Also on the 10th seven Christians were killed including a seven year old boy in Potiskum. On the 11th four Christians were killed when their bus was machine gunned by Boko Haram gunmen in the same town. Meanwhile an op-ed in the New York Times stated that the Boko Haram in Nigeria "was not a problem."

CHILDREN ATTACKED AT CHURCH SERVICE - Men praying in a mosque stopped and attacked children at the Philadelphia Pentecostal Church in New Mianwali Colony, Pakistan because they could hear them singing carols. The children were preparing for the Sunday service. Four men, one of them with an axe, barged into the church, slapped the children, wrecked the furniture and kicked the altar. Read more

PRESIDENCY 

OBAMA, MUSLIMS AND THE HAJ - President Obama had a message to those traveling for the "Haj" or pilgrimage to Mecca, considered a sacred duty of every Muslim: "On behalf of the American people, we extend our best wishes during this Hajj season - Eid Mubarak and Hajj Mabrour." The pilgrims of the Haj had a message for Obama as well: "God is the Greatest", "Death to Israel" and "Death to America" were among anti-Western, anti-Christian and anti-Semitic slogans chanted in unison as nearly 2 million Muslims gathered in the Desert of Arafat near Mecca according to ABNA News.
 

THE CONGRESS 

THEY ARE BACK, THEY ARE LEAVING - The House and Senate returned this Monday with the two major parties having very opposite agendas. The Republican leaders announced they wanted to extend the current tax code to prevent a huge tax increase on January 1st for Americans, and also to eliminate congressional earmarks. Democrat leader Senator Harry Reid said his first priorities were to allow homosexuals to openly serve in the military and to pass the Dream Act to allow the children of illegal aliens to receive subsidized college educations. Congress will adjourn for Thanksgiving, but will return on November 29th for the final "lame duck" session.
 

CULTURE AND RELIGION 

CAIR SUES TO FORCE SHARIA LAW - Almost 70% of Oklahoma voters approved the "Save Our State Amendment," which required that judges not consider non-US laws or sharia law in determining the outcome of cases before them. The Council for American - Islamic Relations (CAIR) immediately filed a lawsuit to stop the implementation of the law. If Muslims do not intend to overturn the Constitution of this nation and install Islamic law, why would they file such a suit? The answer is simple and that is that most Muslims in the United States do not respect our laws and want to replace them with Islamic laws that all Americans would be forced to adhere to.  
A BOY, A BIKE AND OUR FLAG - A convoy of motorcyclists followed Cody Alecia to school, all displaying flags after his victory over his school which told him he could not display a U.S. flag on the back of his bike on the way to school. The Liberty Counsel had threatened legal intervention against the Denair Middle School in California (Who would have guessed this could happen in California?) barred the U.S. flag because they felt it would insult Mexicans who had come to this nation to live. (No --- I can't explain this logic and neither can any other sane person.) Read more

NO 911 MOSQUE!

MICHAEL MOORE WANTS 111 STORY MOSQUE - Leftwing nut job and radical movie producer Michael Moore has his insanity on display for all to see at his blog page. This week he promoted moving Feisal Rauf's mosque from its proposed location to the actual site of the Twin Towers. He also proposed building a 111 story mosque, taller than Freedom Tower, at the current location chosen by the mosque promoters. His logic sort of falls in line with that of George W. Bush, that Islam is a religion of peace and we must help them overcome the image of Islam as a terrorist based religion. NOTE: In the last week there have been 30 Islamic terror attacks in 12 different nations with 83 dead and more than 200 severely wounded.

INTERNATIONAL 

CATHOLIC CALL TO STOP PERSECUTION - Cardinal Angelo Bagnasco, the president of the Italian Bishops' Conference, promoted a Day of Solidarity with Iraqi Christians, who are persecuted in their own country. This coming Sunday all Catholic Churches are to include prayers for the persecuted Iraqi Christians. The church is becoming more outspoken about the persecution of Christians in Islamic nations and the Pope has demanded that a Christian Pakistani mother of five, Asia Bibi, who had been sentenced to death for criticizing Mohammed, be released. The charges were falsely leveled against her because of a dispute with a Muslim woman. See Pope's statement  
AFGHANISTAN PERSECUTION OF CHRISTIANS - Since the United States first became involved in Afghanistan, numerous Christians have been charged and convicted of "apostasy" or "blasphemy" by the new "democratic" government we installed. The newest case is that of Sayed Mossa, a father of six, who only has one leg. He has suffered in an Afghan prison, often beaten for no reason, for some time. The Religious Freedom Coalition and other organizations have been working for several weeks with congressmen to obtain his release. On the 20th World Magazine will feature a story on Mossa with a copy of the letter asking for help, which he sent from prison.

PRESIDENCY 

OBAMA SPENDS $6 MILLION TO REPAIR MOSQUES - So far this year the Obama administration has spent nearly $6 million to repair or restore 63 mosques, minarets, and other Islamic sites in 55 countries. Among the expenditures was $76,135 for the 16th century Grand Mosque in Tongxin, China. Muslims set off a truck bomb in China on August 18th killing 7 and wounding 14. Another $67,500 went to the 18th century Golden Mosque in Lahore, Pakistan near were pastors were murdered while in handcuffs in a courthouse. There was also $50,437 for the Sundarwala Burj, a 16th century Islamic Monument in New Delhi, India where virtually every year Muslims massacre Hindus. And of course $15,450 to restore an 18th century minaret in Katsina, Nigeria near where a large number of Christians were murdered this year. While the funds are supposed to be used for historic sites, virtually none go to churches in need of repair.  
OBAMA REPORT SAYS USA VIOLATES HUMAN RIGHTS - This is no joke. There is no religious freedom at all in Saudi Arabia, and only one political party is allowed in China, yet the Obama Administration files a report with the United Nations criticizing our own nation as a "human rights" violator! And how do we "violate" human rights in the USA? According to Obama, "High unemployment rates, hate crime, poverty, poor housing, lack of access to health care and discriminatory hiring practices." Among those listed as discriminated against were black, Latinos, gays and lesbians. Jews were not mentioned despite the fact that two out of every three "religiously motivated" crimes in the USA are against Jews. Wonder who commits religiously motivated crimes against Jews? Could it be the religion that refers to them as "descendants of pigs?"

THE CONGRESS 

CONGRESS IN RECESS UNTIL SEPTEMBER 14th? - Because of a fairly unusual occurrence of Labor Day and Rosh Hashanah falling in the same week, Congress will not reconvene until late on Tuesday, September 14th. BUT ... I have a question mark after the headline because radical left Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi has already called the House back once during this recess period to spend yet another $26 billion.
 

CULTURE AND RELIGION 

THE GLENN BECK RALLY - I delayed issuing this update because of the two events held in Washington, DC by Glenn Beck, one on Friday night and the other on Saturday. My wife Nancy and I attended both events. The Friday evening event was held at the Kennedy Center Theater and attended by about 5,000 people, mostly pastors, other Christian leaders and their wives. The event was co-hosted by Mr. Beck and David Barton of Wallbuilders who is probably the most knowledgeable individual on American history today. A solid presentation was given about the Judeo-Christian heritage of the United States, from speakers that included Rabbi Lapin, Chuck Norris and veterans' advocate Dave Rouver. 
GLENN BECK PART 2 - The crowds at Glenn Beck's Saturday event in the Mall were staggering. The Washington, DC metro system had up to three hour waits at some stations, and large groups were still arriving at the rally's halfway point. Even the Washington Post admitted the magnitude of the size of the event writing, "Throngs of people crowded shoulder to shoulder for six city blocks, from the Lincoln Memorial past the reflecting pool to the World War II Memorial. From there, the ralliers spread out as they spilled onto the grounds of the Washington Monument."
GLENN BECK PART 3 - Sarah Palin spoke in the first hour of the massive Restoring Honor to America rally, saying that rather than "fundamentally changing America," that "We must restore America and restore her honor." Glenn Beck spoke later saying that, "America today begins to turn back to God. For too long, this country has wandered in darkness." Toward his conclusion he said, "Faith is in short supply. To restore America, we must restore ourselves." There was no partisan political message delivered at the rally by any speaker, as critics had claimed would happen. The rally stayed focused on our troops, particularly the children of those lost, and the restoration of our nation's honor.

INTERNATIONAL 

RAMADAN ATTACKS CONTINUE - By the end of the 16th day of the Muslim "holy month" of Ramadan, there had been 112 Islamic terror attacks against civilians, killing 503 and wounding many more. Although for the most part Muslims killed other Muslims during their "holy month," Christians, Buddhists and others were murdered as well. the attacks were spread all over the world and included Nigeria, Thailand. Pakistan, Yemen, Mali, India, Tajikistan, Dagestan, China, Egypt, Indonesia and Ethiopia. In one attack at a market place in Basra, Iraq, 43 civilians were killed and 185 wounded, including women and children. We are waiting for Mayor Bloomberg of New York to cite these murders as yet another reason to build a mosque at Ground Zero to celebrate the "religion of peace." 
MORE CHRISTIAN AID WORKERS MURDERED IN PAKISTAN - Although the US Embassy refuses to confirm it, we have learned that three more Christian aid workers helping flood victims were kidnapped and killed by Islamic terrorists. The bodies were found on August 25th and brought to the United States embassy. The embassy refuses to release the names of the dead or the name of the organization involved for fear of "creating panic" among aid groups that are helping those in need during the deadly flooding there.
