PRESIDENCY 
TEA PARTY DOWNGRADE? - The message from the White House was mixed over the S&P downgrade of the nation's credit rating. The two main talking points are at odds. Talking point one: This does not really matter; it does not affect the nation's ability to sell bonds. Talking point two: The "Tea party downgrade" is catastrophic for the nation. In other words, Obama's position is that the downgrade doesn't much matter unless we can blame it on the Tea Party.

MARKET VOLATILITY - The failure of President Obama to make any statement for several days after the S&P downgrade of U.S. Treasuries caused some serious volatility in the markets. This volatility was not caused by the actual downgrade, but by the uncertainty as to the reaction of our government. Finally Chairman Bernanke calmed markets by promising that the Federal Reserve would continue to lend money to major banks at 0% interest rates at least until March, 2013, well after the next presidential election. This proved that the market slide had less to do with the downgrade than with the deteriorating financial situation in the West. All of Western Europe and the United States have been floating giant entitlement programs and free medical care with borrowed money. Much of that borrowed money was just flat out printed. There is not enough real money in the entire world to pay back what Europe and the USA owe.
THE CONGRESS 

PUBLIC EXPRESSION OF RELIGION - During August your congressman will be working at his district office in your state. Please contact him there and ask him to support H.R. 2023, Public Expression of Religion Act. The bill would modify the law so each side pays its own attorneys' fees in cases when groups such as the ALCU sue school districts, counties and cities to force an atheistic agenda on them. Removing the monetary incentive that activist groups have in bringing these types of cases would end many of them. Contact your congressman

RELIGION AND CULTURE
SEIU DISPLAYS COMMUNIST LINKS - The 2011 May Day parade in Los Angeles featured all the pro-Obama groups, including the Service Employees International Union which gave him $28 million in the last election as well as the Communist Party. SEIU members carried communist flags and called for communist revolution from "Wisconsin to Libya." A short clip of the pro communist SEIU marchers during the parade is located at YouTube.  
THE LONDON RIOTS - The London riots, which have spread to other cities in the U.K., are actually Twitter driven events. Under employed or unemployed young men are using Twitter and other social media to arrange mobs to sack stores. The core reason for the looting and violence is the cutoff of much of the money the U.K. handed out for decades for unemployment and social services. Now nearly broke and with bond sales nearly failing last year, the government has made huge cuts in entitlement spending. Similar mob violence and looting has occurred in Greece. The demonstrations and riots that led to the fall of the Egyptian government this year had far less to do with democracy than with the rise of food and fuel costs when that government lowered subsidies. The problem is simply this: World governments can no longer afford to borrow money to supply cradle to grave services to residents.

PRESIDENCY 

DOES OBAMA WANTS U.S. TO DEFAULT? - Speaker Boehner said it this way: "President Obama would not take 'yes' for answer." Every time a deal was near on the debt limit issue, Obama moved the goal posts. Why? He didn't want a deal. Obama knows under the current economic and social situation he cannot win re-election. He owns the bad economy. But, if he can create a crisis and blame Republicans he thinks he can win. Obama is willing to harm the economy even further by causing our nation to default, if he feels he can win votes as a result.

WE PAID THE TALIBAN - It is official. The Pentagon acknowledged that payments from a $2.6 billion dollar trucking contract were used as payoff money to the Taliban. With the U.S. funds, Afghan contractors paid local drivers, who in turn paid local security forces for safe passage. Just like in the old fashioned protection rackets in Chicago, the local "security" paid the Taliban to let the trucks through. Our brave men and women in uniform are fighting and dying for payoff rackets like this in Afghanistan to continue. Meanwhile, Christians in Afghanistan continue to be persecuted even worse than they are in Iraq.

THE CONGRESS 

BOEHNER UNDER ATTACK - Many conservatives, particularly Tea Party backers, have settled on Speaker John Boehner as the villain rather than President Barack Obama. Wednesday I witnessed a Tea Party rally in which the Speaker was called just about everything but a human being. Do these "conservatives" want Nancy Pelosi back in charge? Do they want Obama for another four years? Do they want Harry Reid to continue to be in charge of the Senate? Why is all this money and energy being spent attacking Speaker Boehner instead of the real culprits who want to spend the nation into oblivion? There are lots of areas I disagree with Speaker Boehner on, but he is 90% on my side of the issues and I would rather have him than Nancy Pelosi who is not with me on issues even 1% of the time.  
REPUBLICAN SUICIDE - Somehow the Republican Party has managed to seize defeat from the jaws of victory. On Capitol Hill this week I watched in slow motion as President Barack Obama surrendered to Republican leaders and walked away with his head down. Not knowing what to do with this victory on the budget, Republicans immediately began to attack each other. 

RELIGION AND CULTURE 

ATHEISTS SUE OVER GROUND ZERO CROSS - American Atheists filed a lawsuit this week to stop the display of the Ground Zero Cross stating that "no other religions or philosophies will be honored." The cross consists of two intersecting steel beams found intact in the rubble at Ground Zero. It was given a home at the Ground Zero site by the 9/11 Memorial Museum this week. The suit is meritless and a publicity stunt. The 9/11 Memorial Museum is a private non-profit organization with no affiliation with the government.

ANOTHER MUSLIM ATTACK ON FORT HOOD - This week local police, not the military, stopped a Muslim soldier from killing even more service men and women at Ft Hood. Far from investigating the Muslim soldier, the Army had given him "conscientious objector" status because he said he could not go to Afghanistan to fight Muslim terrorists. A gun shop owner notified the Killeen, Texas police of the Muslim's purchase of gun powder. Pfc. Naser Abdo, who was AWOL at the time, had weapons and bomb making materials in his motel room near Fort Hood when captured. The military actively recruits Muslims to prove its political correctness. The New York Times, which immediately claimed the bombing in Norway was a done by a Christian, has not as yet referred to Abdo as a Muslim, and probably never will.

NO 911 MOSQUE

NEW YORK STILL FIGHTING 9/11 CHURCH - Mayor Bloomberg and New York City are continuing to fight against the reconstruction of St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church which was destroyed in the 9/11 jihad attack on the United States. INTERNATIONAL 

NORWAY TERRORIST A CHRISTIAN? Not according to the mass killer himself. "As for the Church and science", he wrote, "it is essential that science takes an undisputed precedence over biblical teachings." Anders Behring Breivik also stated that he was a follower of Darwin and not of Jesus Christ. But the Washington Post and the New York Times proclaimed him a Christian the day of the attack. Why? On one of the 1,500 pages of his rambling "manifesto" he stated that like most Europeans he "could be considered a cultural Christian," in other words an atheist who is a cultural parasite. 
MORE NIGERIAN CHRISTIANS BURIED - Members of a church in Suleja, Niger state, ended a week of fasting and prayer on Saturday with a service for three Christians killed in a bombing by the Boko Haram. The All Christian Fellowship Mission Church members were leaving a Sunday worship service, when a bomb exploded. This is the third time this year bombs have targeted the Christian area of Suleja, just outside the capital. Read more

PRESIDENCY 

OBAMA, THE DEBT AND FOREIGN AID - The credit rating agency Moody's is now threatening to lower the rating of the United States because of massive debt. Lowering the rating from AAA would increase interest payments dramatically. Meanwhile, Obama's State Department and other agencies are giving money to nations that actually hold huge amounts of US debt including China. Fox News obtained a CRS report showing that in 2010 the U.S. gave $1.4 billion to 16 foreign countries that held at least $10 billion in Treasury securities.Incredibly enough, we are borrowing money from other nations and then giving it back to them in "aid" while still owing them the money. OBAMA'S HOMELAND SECURITY - President Obama has nominated David Heyman as Assistant Secretary for Policy at the U.S.. Department of Homeland Security (DHS), and at the same agency, Secretary Napolitano has appointme Arif Alikhan as Assistant Secretary for Policy Development. Both men are devout Muslims, and in her announcement Napolitano made that clear. When Catholics, Jews or Baptists are appointed or hired their religion is not mentioned, but why is that? Pandering to Islam and political correctness would be the answer. Alikan is associated with the Muslim Public Affairs Council (MPAC) "a public service agency working for the civil rights of American Muslims." Both men will have top security clearances. Several Muslims at the DHS who have top security clearances are associated with groups that claim Hamas and Hezbollah are humanitarian groups. Meanwhile, Secretary Napolitano has ordered an investigation of the Border Agents who work for her, because they are allegedly "profiling" Muslims at the Canadian border.

THE CONGRESS
CONGRESSMEN JOIN MEMORIAL LAWSUIT - Congressmen who are members of the Prayer Caucus headed by Randy Forbes (R-VA) filed an Amicus Brief in the Utah Roadside Cross Memorial Case. The amicus brief to the Supreme Court urged it to decide if crosses placed on Utah roadsides to honor fallen state troopers violate the Establishment Clause. Utah allows a private nonprofit organization to place cross memorials at sites where state troopers have been killed in the line of duty. The 10th Circuit held that the crosses were unconstitutional because they caused a reasonable observer to believe the state was endorsing a specific religion. Twenty states are also urging the Supreme Court to hear the case and overturn the ruling.

RELIGION AND CULTURE 
PASTOR FILES LAWSUIT TO SAY "JESUS" - Rev. Scott Rainey was allowed to pray in the name of Jesus at a Memorial Day celebration in Texas, but only after taking legal action.The pastor had been invited to pray at an event at a National Cemetery, but the Department of Veterans Affairs instructed the pastor that he would not be allowed to pray unless he removed references to Jesus. He sued and a federal judge held that the government was engaging in impermissible religious viewpoint discrimination, and was "forbidden from dictating the content of speeches" 

JUDGE: GAYS ALLOWED TO DISCRIMINATE - The North American Gay Amateur Athletic Association can limit the number of heterosexuals on its teams, according to a federal judge's order, which also ushers forward claims by three bisexual men who say they were kicked out of the Gay Softball World Series because they weren't gay enough. The three men were playing for a San Francisco softball team in the finals when a rival team challenged their sexuality, citing the rule that limits no more that two heterosexuals per team. BRITISH TEACHER BEATEN TO ENFORCE SHARIA THAT IMAM RAUF SAYS IS DEMOCRATIC- Four Muslim men in London, England were tried last week and found guilty of a vicious attack against a local schoolmaster named Gary Smith who was the head of religious studies at the Central Foundation Girls' School, an academically prestigious school for girls aged 11 to 18. The defendants in the case, ranging in age from 19 to 27, have admitted to causing Mr. Smith "grievous bodily harm" when they smashed his head with a concrete block, slashed his face with a knife and beat him with a metal rod. Smith required surgery after which he was unconscious for two days, and is still unable to work. Their reason for the attack, in recordings played before the court, was that "He's mocking Islam and he's putting doubts in people's minds. How can somebody take a job to teach Islam when they're not even a Muslim themselves?" Read more

AUSTRALIA BUS ADS OFFEND CHRISTIANS - The percentage of Muslims in Australia is very small, but with money from wealthy Arab states they make their presence known. The Australian organization Mypeace is purchasing ads on buses and billboards in Sydney claiming Jesus was a prophet of Islam. Read more

TURKEY'S CHRISTIANS UNDER SIEGE - John Eibner has written a masterful essay on the increasingly violent persecution of Christians in Turkey under the leadership of the first Islamist party to control that nation since the fall of the Ottoman Empire. He centers his story around the refusal of even the Western media to acknowledge the Islamist nature of the murder of a Bishop by a Muslim shouting 'Allah Akbar'. The world's refusal to admit the existence of ongoing persecution of Christians in Turkey is making the situation even worse for them. Middle East Quarterly

CHRISTIANS ATTACKED IN SUDAN - Christians are fleeing the border regions near the Muslim north of that nation as attacks against them continue amid fears of a new civil war between the Muslim Arab north and the Christian south. Hundreds have died in just the past two weeks. The Christian town of Abyei has been occupied by the Sudan Armed Forces and thousands more forced to flee. Read more
