Report From Washington - July 20, 2012

ISRAEL FACT FINDING MISSION - A once in a lifetime mission led by William J. Murray, William Federer and Frank Gaffney, all three experts on Israel and Islamic affairs. Not a standard "tour," the mission includes visits to settlements and military bases plus evening panels. Read more
In this issue: Obama's FBI ignored warnings about Ft. Hood shooter / Evangelical college joins Catholics in ObamaCare lawsuit / Exposing Barack Obama's attacks on religious freedom / Congressman defends Chick-fil-A / Olympics: Husband and wife can't share room / Pray for victory over radical Islam / The Syrian situation / Vacation in jihad training camp

THE PRESIDENCY
Obama's FBI ignored warnings about Ft. Hood shooter - The FBI serves under Attorney General Eric Holder's Department of Justice. That explains why the FBI was too concerned about political correctness to launch an investigation of Major Hasan, who later killed 13 service members in the 2009 attack at Fort Hood. Despite reading e-mails that indicated Hasan was an extremist, the FBI feared questioning a Muslim member of the military. Read more
Evangelical college joins Catholics in lawsuit -
"Wheaten College does not, as Catholics do, view all forms of artificial contraception as immoral. But the list of required services includes "morning after" and "week after" pills that claim the life of an unborn child within days of its conception." That was enough for Wheaten College to join a Catholic lawsuit on ObamaCare's intrusion on religious liberty. Read more

Exposing Barack Obama's attacks on religious freedom - The Religious Freedom Coalition's advertising campaign to expose President Barack Obama's attacks on religious freedom enters its third month. Newspaper ads have already run the length of Florida, and are running in North Carolina now.
CONGRESS
Congressman defends Chick-fil-A - The entire media establishment is attacking Dan Cathy for his on-the-record remark that Chick-fil-A is supportive of one man, one woman marriages. Congressman Joe Pitts (R-PA) stepped forward to defend the restaurant chain on Capitol Hill. Read his comments here.
RELIGION AND CULTURE
Video response to Islamic death threats -
After a particularly vile death threat aimed at himself and other critics of Islam, Michael Coren has a few words to say about the erosion of free speech and other civil liberties in the West.
Olympics: husband and wife can't share room - An Australian shooter, Russell Mark, said his wife Lauryn - a fellow competitor - has been told they must room separately during the Olympics. This is bizarre political correctness considering that same-sex couples who are not married don't seem to have the same problem. My bet: If they were Muslims the accommodation would be made.

Pray for Victory - I have just returned from an extended Middle Eastern trip. During that time I visited facilities we support in Israel as well as Jordan and other areas. As part of the mission trip I visited not only with Christian refugees, but with some Muslims who had been combatants in Syria against the secular government. I learned that the prayers of Islamists are very different from ours. Islamists pray for victory; we pray for safety. Read more
The Syrian situation - As I write this I am looking at dozens of photos of churches in the Homs area of Syria that have been desecrated and destroyed by the "rebel" fighters that are supported by President Barack Obama and Senator John McCain. Without further comment I ask that you view this material and forward it to others. PDF document includes photos.
Vacation in a jihad camp? -
Increasing numbers of Muslims in Europe are traveling to Afghanistan, Pakistan, Somalia and other conflict zones to obtain training in terrorist methods. Read more

THE PRESIDENCY
OBAMACARE SURVIVES AND THRIVES - To the shock and horror of conservatives and the Republican leaders, conservative Chief Justice John Roberts sided with liberals in support of ObamaCare. Even more surprising is that Roberts used a novel approach which gives the Congress the right to tax Americans for failure to purchase a product the government decides they should buy.
MY OP-ED ON THE THE OBAMACARE VICTORY - WND.com was the first news outlet to publish my editorial on the ObamaCare case. Rather than repeat criticisms of the Court decision done by others, I focused on the effect this will have on conservative election strategy, particularly in the light of the conservative Chief Justice handing Obama a victory. Read my editorial at WND.com.
CONGRESS
CONGRESSMEN OBJECT TO AIR FORCE ATTACKS ON FAITH - Congressman Forbes joined Congresswoman Diane Black and Congressman Todd Akin in sending a letter signed by 66 Members of Congress urging Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta to investigate a pattern of hostility towards faith in the United States Air Force. Over the last year, the Air Force has repeatedly capitulated to pressure from outside groups to remove religious symbols and references to faith from the service. According to Congressman Forbes, "When viewed individually, any of these actions is concerning. But taken together, they highlight an alarming pattern in the Air Force that we do not see in the other branches of the military. Those who sacrifice so much for our nation must be assured that they need not leave their faith at home when they volunteer to serve." The letter calls on Secretary Panetta to issue clear Department of Defense policy guidance, consistent with our Constitution, to preserve the place of religious expression in the military at large. Read letter to Panetta
PRAYER CAUCUS DEFENDS LEGISLATIVE PRAYERS-
Thirteen Members of the House of Representatives joined an amicus curiae brief to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit in support of legislative prayer. The Lakeland City Commission in Florida had a policy of inviting clergy to offer invocations at the beginning of its meetings. The Atheists of Florida sued, arguing that because most of the prayers were offered by Christian clergy, the prayers were "too sectarian" and thus violated the Establishment Clause. The brief submitted by the Members asserts that courts do not have the jurisdiction to delve into the inner workings of a deliberative body's meetings because of the constitutional separation of powers between the branches of government.

RELIGION AND CULTURE
MUSLIM GRAFFITI AT WTC MEMORIAL - The NYPD Hate Crimes Task Force is investigating after the words "Allah Wakbar" were found written on a granite seat at the Sept. 11 memorial. A custodian found the graffiti, written in pink and black marker, on a seat in the plaza and investigators believe someone wrote the words that same day. The area is not in the view of any security cameras which means the Muslims who defaced the Memorial knew where to do so.

SUDAN: MORE CHURCHES DESTROYED - Authorities in Khartoum demolished two church buildings last week, days after confiscating three Catholic schools, sources told Compass. Officials from the Ministry of Planning and Housing of the local government authority on June 18 sent bulldozers that destroyed a church building belonging to the St. John Episcopal Church of Sudan, in the Haj Yousif area, an area source reported by email. A Catholic church building in the area was also demolished the same day. Read more
75% of PAKISTANIS HATE AMERICA -
Three-in-four Pakistanis consider the United States an enemy country, a new survey conducted by the Washington-based Pew Global Attitudes Project indicates. The Pew survey, which was published on its website on Wednesday, said that last year 69 percent used to hate the US, but in 2012 the figure jumped to 74 percent. The survey also showed an exceptionally low regard for US President Barack Obama among Pakistanis.

BRITISH MUSLIMS THREAT TO OLYMPICS - The BBC released inside information that a security official has suggested the Olympic Stadium would be the "most sensitive terrorist target in the world" with the event due to take place during Ramadan. Read more
LONDON OLYMPICS - Individuals should visit this year's Olympic games only if they have no regard at all for their safety. Jews in particular should stay away. London has never been a particularly safe city except in tourist areas, but now gangs of Muslim men roam the streets raping non-Muslim women and beating homosexuals and other infidels. THE PRESIDENCY
WHITE HOUSE PRESS CORPS DETAINED - Chinese officials insulted President Bush when he arrived in China by refusing to allow the press corps traveling with him to deplane for three hours. The President thought going to the Olympics and championing human rights would change the hearts of the Communist leaders of China. Since they have no hearts, this is not possible Mr. President. The Chinese Foreign Minister said of Bush's remarks on freedom, "We firmly oppose any words or acts that interfere in other countries' internal affairs, using human rights and religion and other issues." Don't expect to see this information on the front page of your newspaper. Big business and the liberal media are as much in love with the Chinese communists as they are with Barack Obama.

BUSH AIDE FUNNELED MONEY TO RADICAL ISLAM - Karen Hughes, a close confidant of President Bush, funneled millions of dollars in grants to radical Islamic organizations, many of whose leaders have been convicted or indicted in terrorism cases. Read more

OBAMA ALMIGHTY - Obama's ego transcends even the willingness of the mainstream press to inflate it. Finally, some are poking fun at the man who manages to use the words "I" and "me" so many times in the same sentence that it causes grammar experts to get physically ill. Obama is so puffed up about himself that he has become a comedy target for the McCain Campaign. McCain's "The One" commercial has been viewed tens of thousands of times on the Internet. View "The One"

THE CONGRESS
CONGRESS IN RECESS ... BUT - Congress is in recess for the month of August. TV commentators say it is their "vacation," but actually Democrat lawmakers are in their districts trying to explain why they refuse to allow energy exploration in the United States. Meanwhile about fifty House Republicans take to the floor of the House everyday even though radical left Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi has ordered the cameras off and the lights out. The Republicans are trying to call to the attention of Americans that it is Pelosi and the Democrats who refuse to allow a vote on drilling for oil or expanding nuclear power. Read more

"SAVING THE PLANET" - When Congress returns in September, Republican Whip Roy Blunt (R-MO) will push the Democrats for an up-or-down vote on the American Energy Act, H.R. 6566. The act would promote American-made energy and stop the flow of money to Muslim dictators. It would open deep-water resources and allow drilling in areas where the Democrats currently forbid it. Radical leftist Speaker Nancy Pelosi has so far refused to allow a vote, knowing that enough Democrats will vote for the bill to allow it to pass. She told a reporter that she would not allow a vote because she needs to "save the planet."

SENATE WEAKENS FIGHT AGAINST HUMAN TRAFFICKING - A great accomplishment of the House was when they passed overwhelmingly the William Wilberforce Act of 2007 (H.R. 3887), which authorized U. S. law enforcement to aggressively investigate and prosecute cases of human trafficking and slavery. Senator Biden (D-DE) has introduced a Senate version (S- 3061) that removes key provisions necessary to make the law effective. A group of organizations, including the Religious Freedom Coalition, have sent a letter to President Bush asking him to take a firm stand behind the House's William Wilberforce Act of 2007 and to not sign a weakened version. CULTURE AND RELIGION
CALIFORNIA'S GAY SCHOOL DAY - This week the California Assembly passed AB 2567 on a 43 to 26 vote, with Democrats for, and Republicans silently against. It previously passed the Senate. If signed into law, it will create an official day commemorating homosexuality, bisexuality, and transsexuality in California's public schools. Every May 22nd kids from kindergarten through high school will be expected to celebrate homosexual experimentation, homosexual 'marriages,' sex-change operations, and cross dressing. Governor Schwarzenegger has not disclosed his position on the bill being presented to him.

NEW CHAIRMAN'S REPORT - The all new July 31, 2008 Chairman's Report is now available to read in PDF format. CHINA TORTURE OF CHRISTIAN BOOKSTORE OWNER - A Beijing, China bookstore owner and House Church Leader, Shi Weihan, has suffered deteriorating health since his imprisonment four months ago. He has been refused his diabetes medication and has lost more than 20 pounds in body weight. Shi was coerced to sign a confession convicting him of "engaging in the printing and distribution of a large number of illegal publications." The Bibles and Christian literature Shi printed and sold at his Beijing Christian bookstore were "illegal" because they were not printed by the "official" church.
